Our day labor center opened in late summer, 2007, replacing an organized hiring site located in the elements on a street corner in downtown Graton. Day laborers are available for hire based on a system chosen by the workers themselves. For more information about how the hiring process works, click here.
Thanks to cooperation from the community of Graton, and from local developer and land owner Orrin Thiessen, our new site includes a modular building of about 960 square feet, a separate bathroom building, a large deck, adequate off-street parking, a community garden, and extensive landscaping. Located on Bowen Ave., 2 blocks from the downtown Graton business district, our new center provides a location out of the elements for workers to seek work in a organized, dignified manner, while making good use of their waiting time learning English, learning job skills, holding meetings to build self-governance as well as build community trust and health.
We are excited about finally having a warm, dry place to settle the day labor center!
