While it has become a priority for the day labor center to teach English to laborers involved in the center, many are not yet functional in English. The day labor center will be glad to match workers with the linguistic need of any job site.
If the work is very detailed and communication is key, then we will arrange a bilingual worker to the job. If a less communication is needed, then we might arrange the employer with one of our english learners. Our bilingual job coordinators will be glad to provide some introductory translation that morning, to share the expectations of the job.
All of our workers are anxious to learn more English, though some are more shy about their language skills than others. You will be pleased to learn how much they are willing to work on their English or teach you some of their Spanish, or maybe even their indigenous language. While all of this may be a little more work, the more you engage in communication, the richer the experience becomes for both laborer and employer.
