Morning English Classes

Three days a week, starting at 7:30 a.m. before the work day begins, twenty to day laborers–along with community volunteers–meet for group English lessons. High school and college students and adult volunteers offer their services as ESL (English as a Second Language) teachers. Volunteer teachers focus on basic survival English, with curriculum and discussions centered on issues that are relevant to the day laborers. These classes, which have been meeting for over seven years, break down language and personal barriers and have been valuable to identify and nurture natural leaders among the day laborers. In addition to English survival classes held on Saturdays, basic English classes are taught by a Santa Rosa Junior College (SRJC) instructor 3 days per week from 7:00 – 8:30am. Additionally, Sonoma County Library Adult Literacy teaches English Literacy on Monday and Friday mornings from 9:00 - 11:00 am.
